Keen Wha?: Banana Raisin Quinoa Cereal

Atticus hasn’t been eating much lately. A phase, I know. He has so much energy that all he wants to do is move. Not sit and eat. As he likes to say, “Mama, eating not fun!” What happened to my little ChowBaby?

But I know enough not to make it an issue. Or try to force food on him. Or play games to trick him into eating. Or feed him crap like pizza every day because anything is better than nothing. Of course, I still worry. Can a ChowMama help it? So I try to make sure the foods I do offer pack a big nutritional punch. Like what? Like quinoa.

Flaxseed for Omega 3s

I’ve been noticing a ton of new kids’ food products that proudly proclaim supplementation with things that are “hot” right now—like omega 3 and ALA. I’m not saying there’s always something wrong with that. Supplementation definitely has its place.

But Stacie and I do believe that, for the average healthy kid, the ideal vehicle for any nutrient is a natural whole organic food. Fact is, the idea of scientifically perfected foods freaks me out a little. Didn’t Mother Nature already make it perfect? No surprise, then, that since Atticus was born I’ve been a little (okay, more than a little!) obsessed with flaxseed.
